1. Draw and label the Mosaic-Fluid Model
(Your diagram should have; Hydrophilic head, Hydrophobic tail, phospholipid bilayer, carrier protein, pore protein). eg. diagram as shown below:
2. Define the important terms such as semi-permeable, Osmosis, Simple diffusion, Active Transport and Facilitated diffusion.
- Semi-permeable= separa telap; It allows certain substances to across into or out through plasma membrane.
- Osmosis= a movement of water from a region of lower solute concentration to higher solute concentration through plasma menbrane.
- Simple Diffusion= a movement of molecules/gases from higher concentration to lower concentration until it reaches the equilibrium dynamic.
- Active Transport= A movement of ion molecules from lower concentration to higher concentration by requiring the energy (ATP).
- Facilitated Diffusion= A movement of large molecule from higher concentration to lower concentration with aided by carrier protein.
Remember of word "SOFA"
3. Define the meaning of Hypotonic, Isotonic and Hypertonic solution.
- hyPO=LO ; low= rendah
- iSo= SAMA;
- HYper= HI; high= tinggi
* To understand better, you should be able to explain the effect of the solutions in Red Blood Cell (RBC) and Plant cell (PC)
Question: Based on the diagram above, explain the effect of RBC and PC when it immersed into hypotonic solution, isotonic solution and hypertonic solution? ( 10 marks)
